Calpe is famous for the Peñón d'Ifach, a huge rock outcrop rising out of the sea. The Penon d'Ifach, which is 332 m high, can almost be compared to the sugar loaf in Rio: the mountain Ifach (pronounced: efatch) is the landmark of the Costa Blanca. The Moores named it the "northern rock', in contrast to its counterpart, the "southern rock" of Gibraltar. The largest rock at the Costa Blanca is at the same time the smallest natural preserve in Spain.
Rare species of plants as well as sea gulls have found a home here.
Visitors are free to climb on top of the spectacular limestone block. It takes approximately two hours.
The town offers everything you could need, shops, hotels, restaurants and bars.
